“We had Rich come out to our house in Melrose Ma. and give us an estimate
on a Munchkin Boiler, a high efficiency gas heating system with a superstor indirect
water heater. We got several estimates. Rich was not the cheapest but, he was
impressive in his extensive knowledge in gas fitting and the heating field. We
requested a Munchkin high efficiency boiler. He gave us the option and comparison
to Burnham Boilers, Weil Mclain Boilers, Lochinvar Boilers and Buderus Boilers.
He also gave us the option of a Rinnai tankless heater in comparison to the Superstor
and a conventional gas water heater. He was very informative on these products
as well. I would also like to mention of the four contractors we had in. Rich
was the only one who told us about the high efficiency rebates we were entitled
to. They came to $1,400 in total and he filled out the forms for us including
the water heater installation. We decided to go with Rich. We were extremely satisfied
with his professionalism, from start to finish. I would like to add we have investment
property in Medford, Winchester, Somerville, Malden, Peabody, Wakefield, Reading,
North Reading, Beverly and a summer home in the Cape Ann area . Rich and his workers
have been very responsive in maintaining the needs of our properties.”

I had a old State hot water heater that was leaking. I was shopping water heater
prices. I went on the internet and did a search for water heater installers. Rich
Mathews & Son Inc. showed up with his impressive website. I called Rich and,
he came out for a free estimate. He did a water heater price comparison for me.
He gave us the option for a Bradford White water heater on the lower price side,
A Superstor indirect water heater and a Rinnai tankless both of which were more
money but, had energy efficient savings over a period of time. We optioned for
the Superstor water heater that came with a $300. rebate through www.gasnetworks.com
I was very satisfied that he took the time to give us the option of water prices
and a water heater price comparison.

Description Of Work:
Conversion of decades-old oil burner heating system to natural gas, including
coordination of utility company rebates. Work included disconnection and removal
of old boiler, selection of new energy-efficient gas equipment, assisting homeowner
with utility company correspondence for rebate (even bumping me up in utility
company delivery schedule), draining and removal of oil tank, chimney lining,
new gas furnace installation, all connections, installation and updating of thermostat
controls, bleeding and checking all radiators in the house, and all inspections.
Also included coordination of sub-trades for oil tank removal and chimney lining.

Where do I start? Rich Mathews is the most responsive and professional residential
contractor I've worked with. He is a "master plumber" and it shows;
his work is neat and thorough. It's clear he knows his trade when he can size
up existing conditions, and his predictions are right on. He fit me into his schedule
and got the work done, from equipment order to final inspection, in just 2 or
3 weeks. Once hired, he was consistently on the job, showing up right when he
said he would. He found and coordinated subs. He was easy to reach on his cell
phone and was great about checking in regularly by phone to update me on daily
progress. Highly recommended! P.S. I don't usually rave about contractors like
this, but Rich gets all straight "A"s.

Description Of Work:
Oil to gas and steam to hydronic conversion of central heating of owner-occupied
first floor apartment in two family installation of natural gas fired high-efficiency
Burnham SCG sealed-combustion boiler, installation of new vent and flue through
foundation wall, installation of baseboard heaters.

This was the best experience I've ever had with a home services company. We'd
been out of town for a couple of major snowstorms and the snow was blocking access
to the cellar entrance and the exterior where the vent and flue were to be installed:
Rich came over and cleared a path for himself with his own snow blower. There
were some issues with the installation due to peculiarities in this old house,
like the foundation sill extending a couple of inches inside the line of first
floor interior walls, so installing the baseboards resulted in a broken drill
bit on the first try and extra work from then on. Not a problem, no complaints,
no suggestions of any extra charge although the time to install the baseboards
went up by about 50%. Work was started on 20 December with delivery of the boiler
and masonry work, completed on 23 December, inspected and signed off by the city
inspector on 26 December. A great job and I'll probably hire Rich Mathews &
Son when I install central A/C.

Complete new oil heating system, new configuration and new hot water heater.

It went well. Since we had oil, our job was subcontracted out to someone that
does the oil heat products, but it was overseen by Rich. Our job was done on the
weekends as the oil person has another job. This worked fine for us. They suggested
a new way to do our zones, and a new Weil Mclain Gold oil fired boiler and a Superstor
hot water heater that has a lifetime warranty. They were very neat. They removed
all the old equipment. The technician left one evening, and we had no hot water
and we called him. He came right back as did Rich Mathews himself to make sure
everything was fixed and working again.
